http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Media/teacher-fired-pregnant-wedlock/story?id=10878802
For anyone who doesn't want to click the link, a teacher at a Florida christian school has been fired for admitting that her pregnancy started three weeks before her wedding in February of 2009. And then turned around and told the parents and children why.
She is now suing under discrimination laws.
Now, it's all well and good for the school administrators to fan themselves with their Bibles and say that she "was asked not to return because she chose to disregard these [school morality] standards and have sex outside of marriage, an immoral action." The school also "argues that her termination does not rise to discrimination because it employs other pregnant women."
That's not the discrimination, folks.
Anyone with half a brain knows that were it the husband employed there, he would not have been fired. THAT's the discrimination.
And look at the picture. Florida's not the most progressive place. I'd be willing to bet that were this not an interracial couple, that there would be no problem whatsoever.
Just keep preaching family values, folks. And turn around and show, by your actions, that the family values bar shifts when it's convenient for you.
Keep that nice stack of scarlet A's handy too.
